Tonnette Porter Carpenter, 61, of Clovis, NM entered into God’s eternal glory on December 4, 2017 in Lubbock, TX surrounded by her loving family.
Tonnette was born to Jack and Dollie Porter on June 25, 1956 in Clovis, NM. She graduated from Clovis High School in 1974. At nineteen, Tonnette bought Bobby’s Poodle Dor. She married Doyle Carpenter on April 19, 1979. She ran a successful dog grooming business until she and Doyle were blessed with their children, Zandi Zane, followed soon after Jack Otis. After her children were old enough, she went back to school and received her Bachelors of Science in Special Education. She was an exceptional teacher and her students blossomed under her care and love. Tonnette retuned to dog grooming while teaching in 2006, when she opened Waggin’ Tails, and she continued grooming until her Rheumatoid Arthritis caused her to retire from both.
Tonnette was a Sunday school teacher, a Youth Director, and taught VBS at Central Christian Church. She coached USSSA softball where her daughter participated and her 1999 team won a state championship. She enjoyed watching both of her children show their livestock animals at fairs. When she became a grandmother, she was proudest of being Nana and wanted to be with her “Grandbabies” as often as she could, from having sleepovers every weekend, to being at every school function and sporting event. Tonnette was a kind, generous soul who gave her entire heart and energy to her parents, her children, her grandchildren, and her husband, Doyle. She will be greatly missed by all.
Preceding her death are her grandad R.C. Porter; grandma Thelma Porter; and mother Dollie Porter. She is survived by her husband, Doyle; daughter, Zandi (Brandon) Jacobs; son, Jack Carpenter; grandchildren, Toby, Caden, Ryleigh, Logan, and Colten Jacobs; father, Jack Porter; and grand dog, Maya, all of Clovis.
