Tommy Arthur Hutchings, age 60, died unexpectedly on Monday, November 19, 2012, from injuries sustained in a work yard accident in Denver, Colorado.
He was born June 12, 1952 to Mary Ellen Isbell and Jack Hutchings in Denver, Colorado. He attended Adams City High School and served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1970 to 1976, as an explosives and demolitions expert.
He lived in many different places – including Frankfurt, Germany and Choteau, Montana before settling back in the Commerce City/Brighton area.
Tom worked as a union carpenter, county road maintenance operator, company flatbed-driver, and for several years was owner/operator of Rocking T Trucking. He specialized in hauling oversized loads. His experience and knowledge of the flatbed industry was respected and recognized by all.
He will forever be remembered for his devotion to his wife, his granddaughters and family and his love of the outdoors; fishing, hunting, wildlife, horses and the western cowboy way of life. Tom was quick witted and loved to tease. He will especially be remembered for his 5:00 a.m. rendition of “Blue Skies Smiling at Me” during a large family camping trip.
Tom had a commanding presence in his cowboy boots and Stetson hat, but if ever a man had a heart as large as his size, it was Tom. He will be missed by all who loved and knew him, and will live forever in our hearts and in the countless family stories to be told and re-told.
Survivors include his wife Terry Lynn Hutchings and special grand-daughter Shelby McKenney of Brighton, CO; step-son, Bill Harding and grand-daughter Carmen Harding of Aurora, CO; step-daughter, Samantha Harding of Parker, CO; mother, Mary Hoffman of Lochbuie, CO. Other survivors include his brothers, Danny Hutchings of Lochbuie, CO, Jerry (Jodi) Hutchings of Littleton, CO and Scott (Terri) Hutchings of Brighton, CO; sisters, Rita (Bill) Brown of Lochbuie, CO, Tammy Hutchings of Brighton, CO and Amanda Hoffman of Lochbuie, CO; four nephews; four nieces; four great-nephews and 10 great-nieces.
He is preceded in death by his step-father, Mike Hoffman and father, Jack Hutchings.
