On December 12, 1963, Todd Avery Jackson, was born the third child of three sons to Helen and Tilmon Jackson in San Diego, California. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the “Class of 1981”. Todd received Christ as a youth and was baptized while attending Mt.

Todd (referred to as Avery during his adult years), was employed by Black Infant Health, Seltzer, Caplan, McMahon, Vitek Attorneys at Law, Mt. Erie Christian Academy, Naval Base Coronado, the Department of Motor Vehicles and Horace Mann Middle School. He enjoyed a variety of music, raised Pit Bulls, and bought “Z” cars which managed to stay parked more than driven on the road. Avery was a passionate sports enthusiast with the L.A. Lakers and Oakland Raiders as his favorite teams. He coached adult softball leagues, served as a youth football coach at Kearny, Valencia Park School, Los Toros Bulls of Spring Valley and for the Eagles of South Bay. He also served as Assistant Executive Director of Productive Young Citizens of Society (P.Y.C.O.S.).

Todd truly enjoyed hanging out with “the fellas” better known as, “The Crew” A.C. Crosby, “Pope”, Joseph C. Banks, “JB”, Arthur Jones, “Petie”, Walter G. Wells II, “Boot”, James Jones III, “JJ”, and, Sean Hawkins, “Hawk D”. He made it his practice to give everyone nicknames that fit their personalities like, “Chuck, Fred, Mert and, Sis”, just to name a few others. He also cherished time spent with his godchildren; Torsha, Jasmyn, Brittani, Jermaine and James. Family and friends were always top priorities throughout Todd’s life.

On July 21, 1999, his precious daughter, Taj, (named in honor of Todd’s initials), was born, and became the apple of her daddy’s eye. He loved her more than words could ever express. She was the topic of almost every conversation and he would show off her pictures from his cell phone over and over beaming with fatherly pride.

On Monday, February 4, 2013, Todd Avery Jackson passed away peacefully at Grossmont Hospital with his family at his side. He was preceded in death by his brother, Merlin T. Jackson. He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Taj Jackson of Dallas, TX; parents, Tilmon and Helen Jackson; brothers, Marcellus T. Jackson, A.C. Crosby and William Foster II, all of San Diego, CA; sister, Charlene Lemons-Shivers; nephew, Dante Lemons of Del Mar, CA; four aunts, two uncles, one great uncle, one great aunt, and a host of cousins, other relatives, friends and loved ones who will miss him dearly, mourn his passing, but celebrate his life with smiles on their faces.
