My mama, Tina Darlene Hill, was born on October 27, 1962 in Stigler, Oklahoma to the late Glenda Faye Flemens. She was one of seven children.
She worked in the Umpire school cafeteria for years and was also a poultry farmer. She always worked so hard at everything she did, but more so at her role of being a mother. Which, I actually felt as if she didn’t have to work hard at that – it just came natural to her. It was what she was best at, what she enjoyed most.
She always made sure that our home was spotless, that there was a banana pudding on the table and that my bangs were curled, teased and hair-sprayed to withstand even the strongest of windstorms.
She always smelled of Gloria Vanderbilt perfume, the glass bottle with a swan on it. I would sometimes get her shirts and hold them close just so I could breathe her in. I can recall that smell even now.
She called me her “Angel” and her Ashley Pooh. She had my whole childhood on video with the help of a huge camcorder that used to be permanently attached to her shoulder.
She adored her two granddaughters and affectionately referred to Paisley as her “little treasure” and Avery as her “little jewel.
She taught me to never wear my shoes in the house, to not tuck my hair behind my ears, to love the rain and never pay full price.
She loved fiercely. She would always stand up for me and what she believed in. She loved me so much – so much, that she taught me about a relationship with the Lord. She and my daddy took me to church every time the doors were open and she taught some of my Bible classes. She made sure I had a firm foundation. It’s the most valuable lesson my parents ever taught me – Jesus.
I know life wasn’t always easy for her, but I truly believe that when she drew her last breath on March 10, 2021, she was instantly in the arms of Jesus. I know she’s truly happy and fully restored, dancing in the sky. She’s probably singing slightly off key in the angel choir.
Bobby Parker, her fiancé, me and my husband, Clint, her granddaughters, Paisley and Avery, her brother, Brian Hill and her sisters, Mary Reed, Beth Launius, Jessie Fox, Debbie Reid, Vicki Cowart, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends, are left with a lot of great memories to help us along until we meet with her in glory.
Oh, my goodness, I can’t imagine how the sky is going to look every day now because Heaven can’t contain the beauty that she radiates.
I love you, so very much, Mama. My heart will miss you forever, but one day I will see you again on the other side of the stars.
