One of the most powerful and beautiful bass voices of the Washington Choral Arts Society fell silent on March 23, 2018 when our beloved brother, uncle, cousin, teacher, colleague, and friend, Timothy Gerard Evans, passed away. Born on January 24, 1948 to the late Robert M. and Jean Evans of Glassport, PA, Tim received his education at the Covington Latin School in Covington, KY; St, Pius X Seminary in Erlanger, KY; St. Vincent Seminary, Latrobe, PA; and North American College, Gregorian University, and the University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome, Italy. He was ordained a priest at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome in 1973 and served in the Diocese of Pittsburgh for 27 years. For the past 14 years, Tim was a devoted and compassionate teacher of students with special needs at the Simpson Middle School in Leesburg, VA and, over the years, received numerous Special Education teaching certificates and credentials. At Simpson, Tim was often heard singing Broadway tunes as he pushed his classroom cart through the halls. During his recent illness, Tim received many cards and letters from the staff and students at Simpson, where he was greatly admired and will be sorely missed. One colleague wrote: “I want you to know that I have enjoyed working with over the last few years—you’re a wonderful teacher and so kind and patient with our kids. I admire you greatly.” Another claimed, “the Simpson community is not the same without you.” Tim has been a member of the Washington Choral Arts Society for more than a decade and has performed many times with the chorus at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. He also traveled with the Choral Society and performed in South America in 2005 and in China in 2015, among many other venues.
