Thomas Virgil Clark, 90, of 401 Barker Road, Ringgold, VA went to be with Christ on August 28, 2012 while a patient at Roman Eagle Memorial Home, Danville, VA. He was born August 15, 1922 in Tampa, FL to the late Carolyn Edith Griffith Clark and the late Virgil Isaiah Clark. He was married to Elizabeth Levette Clark, who preceded him in death on December 23, 1967. He married Bernice Lee Apple Clark on February 6, 1971; she also preceded him in death on March 8, 2011. Mr. Clark served his country proudly during WWII in the US Navy. He earned his Mechanical Engineering degree from Georgia Tech, and served as Technical Superintendent at Dan River, Inc. from 1948 – 1987. Mr. Clark was a member of the Dan River Ruritan Club, the former Optimist Club, and the Joy Club. He had been awarded the Dan River Ruritan “Outstanding Citizen Award.” Mr. Clark was also a member of Ringgold Baptist Church, serving formerly as a Deacon, and as Sunday School teacher, and as head of Ringgold Baptist Church Building \u0026 Grounds Committee, he helped maintain Ringgold Baptist Church, and was instrumental in helping the church community add an educational wing to the building. He is survived by two daughters: Carolyn Jane Clark Foster (Bob) of Frankfort, KY, and Elizabeth Anne Clark Chaney (Gary) of Myrtle Beach, SC; two sons: Dr. John Edward Clark (Cathy Botehlo), of Auke Bay, AK, and David Alan Clark of Leesburg, VA; four step-daughters: Judy Hodnett (Cliff) of Danville, Jackie Anderson (Charles) of Ringgold, Mary Lily Barker (Maynard) of Staunton, VA, and Rae Rhodes (Rockford) of Roanoke, VA; one step-son: Jack D. Clark, Jr. (Patricia) of Taylors, SC; two sisters: Elizabeth Miller (William) of Alexandria, VA, and Eleanor Branch (Waylon) of Shreveport, LA; five grandchildren: Lindsay Bristol Clark and Auri Catherine Clark of Auke Bay, AK, Robert Alan Foster of Half Moon Bay, CA, Elizabeth Ashley Foster of San Diego, CA, and Megan Carol Chaney of Myrtle Beach, SC; ten step-grandchildren: Gwen Hodnett Anderson (Steven) of Danville, Jennifer Hodnett Breedlove of Siler City, NC, Charles W. Anderson, Jr. of South Boston, VA, Beth Anderson Pukanecz (Todd) of Mocksville, NC, Carole Barker Della Penna (Christopher) of Seminole, FL, Brian Barker (Jennifer) of Oak Ridge, NC, Jonathan Barker of Roanoke, VA, Angela Clark Freeman (Scott) of Fountain Inn, SC, Laura Clark Chamberlain (Tim) of Gold Bar, WA, and Jack D. Clark, III of West Palm Beach, FL; eleven step great-grandchildren: Lillian Della Penna and Gabriel Della Penna of Seminole, FL, Alexa Barker, Michael Barker and Haley Barker of Oak Ridge, NC, Zully Pukanecz of Mocksville, NC, Jordan Freeman and Paige Freeman of Fountain Inn, SC, Molly Dillingham of Gold Bar, WA, and Ryan Anderson and Julianne Breedlove of Danville. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 2, 2012 at Ringgold Baptist Church, 4620 Ringgold Church Road, Ringgold, with Dr. Steve Ellis and Rev. John Groff officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park in Danville with American Legion Post 1097 conducting military rites at graveside. The family will receive friends Saturday, September 1, 2012 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at Ringgold Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be made to Ringgold Vol. Fire Dept., 3880 Tom Fork Rd, Ringgold, VA 24586 and the Ringgold Baptist Church Building Fund, 4620 Ringgold Church Road, Ringgold, VA 24586.
