DURHAM Mr. Thomas J. “Tommy” Boatright, 89, of Durham, died on Thursday, May 29, 2014.
Born July 8, 1924 in Screven, Georgia to Lena Davis and Thomas W. Boatright. Preceded in death by his parents and sisters Mevis McQuaig and Doris Harris. Brother, Daniel K. Boatright. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Boatright for 66 years.
Married Martha Percy June 15th 1946. They have three children; Sandra Davis (Bill) of Mocksville, Daniel J. Boatright (Pam) of Cartersville, Il, and Janet Wheeler (Russell) of Efland. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Quinelle B. Pittman of Waycross, Ga. and Winnie B. Gillespie of Blackshear, Ga. and many nieces and nephews as well as many of his inlaw family who loved him very much.
Tommy was a Mason, Shriner, and a member of Bethesda Baptist Church and Bethesda Ruritan Club. He worked several years for Colonial Stores and for 32 years at the American Tobacco Company in construction maintenance. He served his country for 33 months during World War II. His medals earned are the Purple Heart, Bronze star, Good Conduct medal, Combat Infantry Medal, unit citation award, and 3 battle stars.
