Thomas T. Rauschenbach, of New Carlisle, IN, passed away at 6:05 p.m., Tuesday, April 11, 2006, in LaPorte Hospital. Thomas was born on August 2, 1915, in LaPorte, IN, to John and Irene (Donly) Rauschenbach. After graduation from LaPorte High School, he went to work for his parents, who owned How Brothers Jewelry Store. He was an apprentice to his father as a Jeweler and Watchmaker. Thomas then became active in LaPorte community affairs, holding the positions of, Past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Council 1542; Past President of the LaPorte Jaycees; Past President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2439; member of the Lions Club; member of the LaPorte Elks; served on the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army; and was the Past President of the LaPorte Humane Society. On September 21, 1957, he married Ruby A. Shultz, who survives. After his parents retired from the Jewelry Business, Thomas worked part-time for Steinbergs Jewelry Store and Marshalls Jewelry Store in LaPorte. In 1958 Thomas and his wife Ruby opened and operated The Jewel Box in New Carlisle. He then became active in community affairs in New Carlisle. He was a Past President of the New Carlisle Town Board; Past President of the New Carlisle Businessmens Association, Member of the New Carlisle Lions Club and became an over 50 year member; served on the Bourissa Hill Park Board; and was a past Watch Inspector for the South Shore Railroad.
