Thomas P. Cullen, 81, of Clyde, died at his home early Friday, October 10,2014.
Mr. Cullen was born in Vickery on July 24, 1933 to William Joseph “Bill” and Catherine (McCann) Cullen. He graduated from Clyde High School in 1951 and then attended Toledo University.
Tom was an active member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, serving as an alter boy, bell ringer and usher; a member of Knights of Columbus; co-founder of the St. Mary’s football program; former member of the Whirlpool Fire Brigade; Clyde Park Board; coach of Pony League Baseball and had coached little league with his father. He enjoyed tennis, slow ball and softball. Out shining all this, Tom was a family man, using his handyman skills to remodel their home to meet the needs of his expanding family. He was also an avid reader.
In 1997, he retired, after 46, years, from The Whirlpool Corp. as a journeyman millwright.
On November 22, 1952, he married Virginia Humberger. She survives, as do their eight children: Jeffrey (Becky) Cullen, Bowling Green; Jennifer (Dale) Mothersbaugh, Columbus; Matthew (Anita) Cullen, Martinez, GA; Peter Cullen, Clyde; Mary (Shawn) Arndt, Elmore; Molly (Steve) Butts, Perrysburg; Melissa Cullen, Columbus and Steven Paul (Heather Fagan) Cullen, Springfield, VA. Thirteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one sister, Eileen Graham of Illinois also survive.
Mr. Cullen was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, James Cullen, Jack Cullen; three sisters, Peg Doyle; Jane Cullen and Kitty Nieset.
