Mr. Burkhart was born on December 5, 1944 in Riverside, CA to Robert and Gretchen (Miller) Burkhart. Tom graduated from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse and began working for Crawford and Co. in 1968. After working as an insurance adjuster for 32 years, Tom retired in 2000. Tom continued his education at Illinois Valley Community College earning a degree in Computer Science. He then worked at the YMCA for five years before retiring a second time. Tom was a member of the La Salle-Peru Elks Lodge where he served as Exhaulted Ruler. He was very active in the Boy Scouts. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, camping, hiking, and exploring the trails at Starved Rock State Park.
Mr. Burkhart is survived by his wife of 47 years Jean Burkhart of Peru; two daughters Maria Burkhart of Carlock and Amy (Chad) Rebmann of Maple Valley, WA; six grandchildren Christina (Morgan) Glassco, Jessica Andes, Johnathan Andes, Nathan Horn, Gabriel Rebmann, and Elizabeth Horn; one great grandchild Mikel Phillips; and nine brothers and sisters Jim, Carol, David, Phillip, Julie, Marilyn, Mike, Pat, and Greg.
