Thomas McConnell of the City of Burlington passed away into God’s loving and eternal care on Saturday, at Samaritan Inpatient Hospice in Mount Holly. He was 96. Tom was born in the City of Burlington and resided there his entire life, He was a proud supporter of the City’s events. He was an active and devoted member of the First Baptist Church, City of Burlington. He joined the Endeavor Fire Company in 1941 and worked bingo every Friday night along with long time friend Ted Hughes. He was also a member of the Endeavor Emergency Squad. Tom served as Chief of the City of Burlington Fire Dept in 1959.

He was a member of the City of Burlington, Burlington County and NJ State Firemen’s Association as well as a life member of the City of Burlington Exempt Fireman’s Association. He was also a member of the Burlington County and Eastern Division of Fire Chiefs Association and the International Fire Chiefs Association. At the time of his death, Tom was the oldest living City of Burlington Fire Chief. Tom retired from the City of Burlington Water Department in 1980. During his retirement he enjoyed traveling especially with Cortland Major’s group “Happy Travelers” Tom will be remembered as a loving husband, father, uncle ,and friend. Preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Elizabeth, he is survived by his daughter Effalon McConnell special nieces Dolores Anchak, Patricia Tocci (Daniel) and his special dog “Abby”.

He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
