In addition to his wife of 34 years, he leaves three daughters, Tami Harris of Northbridge, and Teri Arcaro and Tracey Hosford, both of Franklin; three stepchildren, Joseph Terlizzi of Uxbridge, Louis Terlizzi of Slatersville, RI, and Nita Wilding of So. Dennis; two brothers, William and Timothy Galloway, and a sister, Nancy Strohschein, all of Michigan; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
The following message has been shared by his family:
As often as we are told to always count our blessings it has never been as true to us as it is now. This past Saturday afternoon our worlds were rocked when we lost Tom Galloway ~ Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, Grandfather, and even Great-Grandfather. We have all been asking the common question “Why?” … The most common answer is that he was doing something to help someone – that’s what he did best.
We all sat down and tried to write something that could pay our proper respects. This has proven to be an awesome task because he was an awesome person. Try as we might it is very hard to focus on any one aspect of his life. Of course there are very personal memories that each of us has to treasure, but his ever growing relationships with his grandchildren prove to be the common thread in all of our thoughts and memories. He was always trying to encourage them to grow and learn and strive for the best in whatever they would choose to do and to become.”Education,” he would say, “can never be taken away from you.”
Aside from being a very involved and proud “Grampy Tom” he was also many other things……
Tom was a proud American who always gave credit to those who have served in any of our armed forces – usually with a heavy heart and contagious tears in his eyes.
· Tom was an avid race fan and participant beginning in his very early days of racing an MGTD on the southern tracks to building stock cars in Franklin which he raced at Westboro participating in the Busch Series as anything from sponsor to “oldest pit crew member to hop the fence with gas cans in tow” his latest endeavor of helping a good many of his family members get hands on racing experience in the 24 Hours of LeMons Series.
· On a lighter note Tom was a superstar Beach Glass hunter – a skill most notably passed on to his daughter Teri. Try as they might, Tami and Tracey seem to pick up twice as many little white rocks than any sea in the water they go!!
· Tom was also someone who loved a good laugh – a regular Jokester Extraordinaire!!! I’ll bet there are parts in all of us who are still waiting for him to come out of the woods with the fallen plane in his hands wearing his shirt and skivvies and his well-known grin – proudly saving the day again. He was sometimes a 71 year old man with an 18 year old mentality of “Wait a minute. Wait a minute. I can do it – just wait here!”
· had two families – his personal family and his Mustang family. At times these two have almost been of his personal family members are also part of many of his Mustang family are just like his own brothers, sisters and children. Tom’s professional work ethic of honesty was built upon his very deeply rooted feelings that a handshake seals a deal; always put yourselves in your customer’s shoes; keep your promises; never lose an order and always get paid!
Although we are quite sure that many of his family and friends know a little something more about Tom than we could possibly know, our thoughts have come full circle. In summary – he always put others before himself.
He will be missed more than words can express.
