Ed, the son of Elgia Edwin and Lena (Combs) Meade, was born on February 3, 1938 in Newton. He grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School. Ed was united in marriage with Karen Sample on May 29, 1963 in Bloomfield. Ed worked for the Maytag Company as the Department Head of Sheet Metal for 33 years, retiring in 1996.
Ed is survived by his wife, Karen Meade of Newton; children, Tom (Paula) Meade of Newton and Donna Meade (Mark Yaple) of Iowa City; his grandchildren, Stephanie (Ryan) Gott and Kara Meade; his great-grandchildren, Emma Gott, Ava Gott, Grady Gott, and Lincoln Gannaway; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leighton and Gordan Meade; and sisters, Marvel (Buddy) Cooper, Ann (Dick) Green, Frances (Darryl) Waring, Iris Dennison, Bette (Ronnie) Simpson, and Cathie (Neal) Cannady.
