Tom was born in Washington D.C. to Anne (Mock) and Edmond Symonds, June 28, 1942. The family moved to Mayo, Maryland, where he graduated from Annapolis High School. Tom attended the University of Maryland, earning his Bachelors of Science degree in Personnel & Industrial Relations in 1965.  After college, Tom married Frances Rose Tarcza in February 1966.

Tom was commissioned into the Air Force (Sept. 1965). While at Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota, Tom and Fran adopted a daughter (Sharon Elizabeth) and a son (Duane Robert). While stationed at North Dakota, Tom earned his MBA degree from the University of North Dakota. He also found his love for Ice Hockey while living in ND. His last tour of duty was at Camp New Amsterdam on Soesterberg Royal Air Base, Netherlands, where he was part of the NATO NBC Disaster Inspection Team. Tom spent 20 years in the military, retiring in 1985.

After retiring, Tom and Fran moved their family to Boise Idaho, where he attended Boise State University, earning his BS degree in Accounting. Tom passed his CPA exam and set up his own Certified Public Accounting practice.

Tom was a member of Civil Air Patrol, Arnold Air Society, Air Force Mars, a longtime member of B.P.O.E, he was an avid HAM operator, member of Idaho Society of Certified Public Accounts, a lifetime member of Air Force Association, and a NRA benefactor.

Tom loved to go hunt and fish, as well as travelling the country and the world.

Tom is survived by his wife, Frances, his son Duane and his wife Michelle, 4 grandchildren, his sister Bonnie Wilson (York, PA), Mother Anne (Salisbury NC), and Step Mother Shirley.

He was preceded in death by his Father Edmund P. Symonds, Brothers Jerry and Phillip, and Daughter Sharon Elizabeth.
