Thomas C. Horton, retired school teacher and administrator and husband of the late Ethel Skellie Horton died Friday, January 19, 2018 at Eddy Village Green, Cohoes.

Born in Poestenkill, he was the son of the late Clyde Horton and Lillian Champine Horton.
A resident of Poestenkill all of his life,he attended schools, in Averill Park and Troy. He was a graduate of Sage College- where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master of Science Degree in Education. He also pursued graduate work at State University of New York at Albany and earned permanent New York State Certification as School District Administrator.
Mr. Horton began his teaching career in the Averill Park School District. In 1969 he became affiliated with the Cohoes City School District as a middle school teacher and in 1974 became building principal at School Number Four. In his final assignment prior to retirement in 1983, he served as building principal at the Cohoes Middle School.
In addition to being a former member of the New York State United Teachers and the National Association of Elementary School Principals, he was a charter member of the Cohoes Administrator’s Association.
He formerly served on the Poestenkill Planning Board, and as an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Navy. Mr. Horton was a life member of the Sullivan-Jones Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Poestenkill.
He was predeceased by his brother Robert (Bob) Horton and is survived by several nieces and nephews.
