Thomas Aldrick Ferguson Sr., 93 of Freeport, IL, passed away Friday, February 2, 2018 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport. He was born November 10, 1924 in Chicago, IL; the son of the late Charles and Wilhelmina (Schwartz) Ferguson. Tom and Eleanor Ruth Eilders were married in Freeport, IL on February 28, 1947.

He enlisted in the United States Navy on March 10, 1944 and was Honorably Discharged a Boatswains Mate Second Class on April 30, 1946. During Tom’s thirty plus years at Micro Switch he enjoyed working at all four plants. Prior to Micro Switch he worked at Kraft Food, Henney Motor Works and Rawleighs. Tom’s passion as a young man was building their family home, which became his pride and joy, continually maintaining his home until 90 years old.

His memberships include Zion Church of Freeport, Navy LST843 Reunion Group, and VFW Post 00998 (life member). He loved to swim at Fitness Lifestyle with his many friends, Friday Night Fish Frys and playing cards. Many family vacations were taken to: Tucson, Arizona, Northern Wisconsin Lakes, camping in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and to the Lake of the Ozarks. Tom and Eleanor spent many winter breaks in Florida. A highlight of their travels was the trip to Alaska. Tom also enjoyed watching his grandson play baseball. Thomas was an extremely hardworking, loving family man and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Eleanor; sons, Thomas A. (Melinda) Ferguson, Jr. and David Lee (Deborah) Ferguson; daughter, Sally Jo (Steven) Hoskinson; grandchildren, Timothy S. (Julie) Ferguson, Jennifer Yvonne (Eric) Holton, Chad S. (Tiffany Kuhlemeier) Hoskinson, Brandi J. Johnson, Ben Ferguson, Amanda (Nick) Halvorsen, and Melanie (Jason) King; great grandchildren: Lauren & Logan Ferguson; Aldrick, Simon & Frederick (Fritz) Holton; Brittany Hoskinson; Anthony & Caden Johnson; Hannah Halvorsen; and Maya & Makenzie King. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Sloan Hoskinson.
