Theodore “Ted” F. Bielen, age 86, of Stratford, beloved husband of Rose Marie Corvino Bielen, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2017, in his residence surrounded by his loving family. Ted was born in Stratford on December 31, 1930 and was the son of the Catherine Bielen Yanosky and Joseph Bielen and spent his entire life living in Stratford. He graduated from Stratford High School where he played the position of Quarterback and Punter for the “North Paraders”. He was also a member of the school’s 1950 State Champion Baseball team. After graduation, he continued playing football for the Stratford Rockets, a semi-pro team as well as being a member of Avco Lycoming softball team. In 1952, Ted married the “love of his life” Rose Marie Corvino. During the Korean War, Ted served his country in the United States Army as a corporal in the medical corp. After the war, he returned to his home and family. His love of sports encouraged him to be a volunteer coach for football, baseball and basketball. Football was his main passion as the head coach of Holy Name Cardinals (Pop Warner) for over 20 years. Mentoring hundreds of players, some continuing on to play in High School and College. Ted was a member of the VFW, Stratford Old Timers Athletic Association, founding member of the Stratford High Fathers Club, Holy Name of Jesus Men’s Society. Ted was an avid golfer and frequent donor to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. He will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his beloved wife, Rose Marie, Ted is survived by two sons, Theodore F. Bielen and wife Kathleen of Glen Rock, NJ and David J. Bielen and wife Irene of Watertown, CT, two grandsons, Todd Bielen and wife Beth and Kevin Bielen and wife Meredith, two granddaughters,Bielen, Theodore “Ted” F. In addition to his beloved parents, Ted was also predeceased by three sisters, Mary Goglin, Florence Bielen and Stella Pitiak.
