Thelma Johnnie, 102 of Centralia, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at her home.

She was born December 30, 1911 in Nashville, daughter of Fredrick Pape and Minnie (Markham) Pape. She married Ralph Johnnie on September 3, 1940 in Perryville, Missouri and he preceded her in death on April 12, 2005.

Thelma is survived by a son, Dr. Ralph Johnnie, Jr. of O’ Fallon, MO; a daughter, JoAnn Bain and husband Dean of Centralia; four grandchildren: Jennifer Patterson and husband John of Waterloo, IL, Trevor Bain of Denver, Colorado, Ralph Johnnie III and wife Kelly of O’Fallon, MO and Dr. Edward Johnnie and wife Lisa of O’Fallon, MO; five great-grandchildren: Rachel Patterson, Lauren Patterson, Skylar Johnnie, Kate Johnnie, and Matthew Johnnie; several loving nieces, nephews and cousins; brother-in-law, Gilford Lenzini of Centralia; best friend, Wanda Orr; her “other” daughter, Sherill Allen; caregivers: Janet Bryant, Rose Budds, Mary Ann Long along with the caring hospice staff. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, eight brothers: Bert Pape, Elmer Pape, Harry Pape, Walter Pape, Charlie Pape, Ed Pape, August Pape, and Clifford Pape, a sister, Irene, Duncan, her daughter-in-law, Mary Johnnie and a sister-in-law, Lela Lenzini.

In her younger years, Thelma worked at the Hollywood Candy Company for 25 years. She was a member of the New Harmony Baptist Church for 62 years. She took great pride in her home canning skills, sewing and art work. Some of her greatest memories were of her toad trips to historical and scenic sites throughout the states and family holidays and gatherings. Her faith and her family sustained her throughout her life.
