Thelma H. (Coonen) Bloomquist, 89, of Peru, passed away Wednesday evening, February 14, 2018 at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa. Mrs. Bloomquist was born May 7, 1928 in Sublette to Jeremiah and Adele (Biolchini) Coonen.

She was a graduate of the Jacksonville School for the Hearing Impaired. She married Robert E. Bloomquist on December 13, 1947 at Reynolds Methodist Church in Reynolds. Mrs. Bloomquist was a member of Oglesby Union Church. She was a homemaker and licensed beautician. While she only actively used her beautician license for a short time, she maintained her license for many years. She enjoyed her trips to the Illinois Valley Adult Day Center and she loved reading, enjoying many audio books.

Her greatest joy was her family and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include two children, Ernest R. “Rod” (Pricilla) Bloomquist and Linda Y. (David) Martuzzo both of Peru; four grandchildren, Nathan (Jessica) Bloomquist, Ashley (Mitchell) Baron, Matthew Martuzzo and Melissa (fiancé, Derek Diaz) Martuzzo; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Evan; two sisters, JoAnne Jones and Sheila (Sholar) Powell both of North Carolina; one brother, Jerry (Bea) Coonen of Florida and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert on December 20, 1991; one sister, Mary Clayton; one brother, Howard Coonen and two nieces, Jodelle and Donna Clayton.
