Thelma Elma El-Saadoon, 81, passed away Friday, February 7, 2014, at Bethel Pointe in Muncie. She was born August 31, 1932, in Elwood, the daughter of Alonzo and Elma Cope Owens. She graduated from Selma High School in 1950, and from Indiana University where she also attended graduate school.
Mrs. El-Saadoon was a case worker supervisor for the Department of Public Welfare for five years. She lived in Baghdad for forty-two years, where she worked for American Friends of the Middle East and was secretary to the director of Hydrological Survey of Iraq.
Surviving are her husband, Saadi Muhammad El-Saadoon; her son, Salam
El-Saadoon, (wife, Ibthal), and Stephen El-Saadoon, (wife Suha); her daughter, Selwa
El-Saadoon, (husband, Samir El-Ghit); her daughter-in-law, Hanaa El-Saadoon; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Samir El-Saadoon; four brothers, Charles Leroy Owens, Harry Robert Owens, Jack Milton Owens and James Elmer Owens; and three sisters, Eatherine Laita Thompson, Rosemary Imus and Bonnie Payne..
