Thelma “Babe” M. (Haupt) Johnson, of Peru, passed away Thursday evening, September 28, 2017, at Manor Court in Peru. Babe Johnson was born in Concord, IN to Conrad and Mary (Mertel) Haupt.
She married Russell Johnson on June 26, 1947, in St. Joseph’s Church, Peru. She worked as an administrative assistant, specializing in medical billing. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Peru, L-P Elks Lodge, Cedar Point Sportsman’s Club, and multiple card groups. She will be missed by her special four-legged friend Lacey.
She is survived by her two children, Daniel R. Johnson of Peru and Beth A. Galley of Chillicothe; four grandchildren, Emily (Andrew) Weeks, Gus (Amanda) Johnson, Caitie Galley, and Blake Galley; two great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Eli Weeks.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Mary in infancy; her daughter-in-law, Martha Lynn Johnson; three brothers, Conrad Haupt, Robert Haupt, and Edward Haupt; seven sisters, Dorothy Halm, Louise Lock, Marjorie Snyder, Martha Schlosser, Maxine Hammerich, Marie Harbison and Gladys Morgan. Pallbearers will be Blake Galley, Gus Johnson, Andrew Weeks, Matt Lorenz, Emily Weeks, and Caitie Galley.
