Thelma D. Allison, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 5, 2021.
Thelma was born September 9, 1937, in Greene, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Martha Schmidt. She graduated from Greene High School in 1955. On January 18, 1958, she was united in marriage to Howard “Bud” Allison. They made their home in Des Moines, where they raised their three children, Mike, Terri, and Sandy.
Thelma was very active in her children’s activities, including scouts, coaching basketball, and cheering them on during their sports. She volunteered at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Dowling Catholic High School, and Mercy Hospital. She sat on the Nursing Applicants Review Board for Mercy Hospital. She was very supportive of Dowling sports and an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Later in life, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, David, Anthony, and Jack.
Thelma is survived by her husband, Howard “Bud”; son, Mike Allison (Jill Sudak-Allison) and grandchildren, David and Jack Allison; daughters, Terri (Marc) Barnes and Sandy (Bill) Howard and grandsons, Anthony and Ian Howard; brother, Mervin (Ruth) Schmidt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Ellene Landers, Harry Schmidt, Robert Schmidt, and Lois Nuss.
