Theadore Calvin “Ted” O’Dell, loving father, grandad, family and friend was called to leave this earthly world on Tuesday, February 27, 2018. Surrounded by his family, he heard the call to come home and went running into his Heavenly Father’s arms. There he rejoins his loving wife Betsy, his parents and many other family and friends gone on before. Born on April 8, 1948 in West Virginia to Calvin J. O’Dell and Norma M. O’Dell (Trout). He was moved to Virginia at a young age so his father could seek better employment and life for the family. However they travelled back to West Virginia as often as possible to be with family and friends. Ted was always very proud of his heritage and all the things his family had done. He always loved taking anyone that was willing to go with him around to see places family members and friends had lived, the coal mines they had worked in or owned, churches, schools, or whatever the special place might be. Ted graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1967 and sought out the only college at that time offering a degree in teaching auto mechanics (Weber State University in Ogden, Utah). After returning home from college he became teacher of auto mechanics at Stonewall Jackson high school where he also coached football. He taught for many years in Prince William County schools before going into the construction business with his son Calvin for several years. Ted ended his employment years as a construction manager for Prince William County Schools. Ted was a member of the Gideons. He enjoyed watching any type of sports and even playing some when he was younger. He helped coach or assist as his children played as well. Ted enjoyed anything that had to do with the outdoors. Fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, gardening, working on cars, mowing the lawn, driving the skyline drive or just any backroad to look at nature and listening to “Good Ole Gospel Music” were all things he found great happiness in doing. His biggest love was his family and friends.
