Terry Cook, age 77 of Burt, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Terry Joseph Cook, the son of Kenneth Cook and Velma (Schroeder) Cook, was born on April 16, 1944 in Algona, Iowa. He graduated from Burt High School in 1963. In 1964, he joined the Army and spent 33 months in Damstedt, Germany. He returned home November of 1967. On April 20, 1968 Terry was united in marriage with Marie Diers at St. John’s Catholic Church in Bancroft, Iowa. After returning from the Army, he began working at the Burt Coop Elevator. In 1974, Terry purchased his dad’s corn shelling business and worked until he retired from it in 2005. He then began driving semis out west for Luke McGuire and Denny Miller and then later for Randy Watnem. He completely retired in 2012. Terry was a member of the Burt Fire Department for 25 years and also the Lions Club for a number of years. His hobbies included fishing, playing cribbage, going to the races, watching Nascar and his son, Doug, racing. He was always socializing with everyone he met. Terry loved going to his grandkids activities when he could. Left to cherish Terry’s memory are his wife of 53 years, Marie; children, Monica (Dean) Preuschl of Whittemore, Sheila (Dan) Schoessler of Omaha, Nebraska, Doug (Michelle) Cook of Algona, and Joe (Amy) Cook of Armstrong; and grandchildren, Tia (Anthony) Cervantes, Ray (Izabelle Meairs- Richman) Schoessler, Abby Schoessler, Krystyna (Braden) Menke, Kevin (Myra Meyer) Diggins, Briton Cook, Audi Crooks, Shaun Cook, and Kelsey (Loren) Shellabarger. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; brother, Milton McBride; sister in-law, Doris McBride; sister, Phyllis Olson; brother in-law, Ervin (Pete) Olson; three nephews; and a niece.
