Teresa Ann Sylvia, age 65, of Milford, beloved wife of Edward Sylvia, passed away Sunday, November 16, 2008, at Yale-New Haven Hospital, after a three year battle with pancreatic cancer. Terry faced her illness with grace, dignity, and above all courage. Born in Stamford, New York, on January 13, 1943, Terry was predeceased by her parents, Willard and Dorothy Wright and her sister, Jeanne Driscoll. Terry was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts and came to Connecticut to begin her teaching career with the Stratford Board of Education. She began her teaching at Garden School in Stratford. Terry then left teaching for ten years to raise her children before returning to the classroom and also earning her Master’s Degree and 6th Year Certificate from Sacred Heart University. A truly dedicated and gifted educator, she taught at several schools in Bridgeport; including Zion Lutheran, Roberto Clemente, Waltersville, Maplewood Annex, and up until her retirement in 2005 she was at the Multicultural Magnet School where she still had many wonderful friends. Terry lived in Shelton for 26 years before moving to Milford 11 years ago. Terry leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband of 40 years, Edward, a daughter, Shelley Sylvia Tomey and her husband Mark Tomey of Shelton, her son, Ted, of Milford, and her three cherished grandchildren who adored her and brought her the purest joy, Schuyler (6), Ryan (4), and Camryn Tomey (17 months). She leaves her mother in law, Evelyn Sylvia, brother in law and sister in law, Robert and Mary Sylvia of North Branford, three nephews, Timothy Driscoll, Robert Sylvia and wife Jennifer, and Justin Sylvia. A niece, Andrea Ronkese and her husband Christopher, and two grand nieces, Ava and Gia Ronkese. Terry also leaves her beloved best friend in the world, Ellie Letsch and her husband Hank. Terry always loved traveling and after retiring, she an Ed spent time at their “dream” retirement home in Naples, Florida. Schuyler and Ryan will always cherish their sea glass and seashell hunting adventures they shared with their Grandma. Terry shared very special moments and traditions with her grandchildren and leaves them with cherished memories of white sandy beaches, sand castles, spotting dolphins, hours in the pool, and sunsets at the Naples Pier.
