Ted was born on December 5, 1953 in Roswell to Radonna Kerr Kuykendall and David Kuykendall of Dexter. His parents preceded him in death.

He is survived by his son Ian, and his six half siblings Bonni Bailey Smith of Georgia, H. D. Bailey of Hawaii, and Dr. Bill Bailey of California, Paul Kuykendall of Arkansas, Myra Small of Missouri, and Beverly Garner of Roswell, and Uncle and Aunt Donald and Lorene Kuykendall of Roswell. The family wishes to acknowledge Teds special friends Donald and Sally Anderson, Sue Franchini, Diane Marsh and Anton Dominguez all of Roswell.

Ted was a resident of Santa Fe for many years and had recently returned to Roswell to fulfill an artists grant at the Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art. He attended the New Mexico Military Institute through Junior College and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Photographic Arts from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. A well-known art photographer, his works have been collected by numerous museums including the National Gallery of American Art at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. and the Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art. Ted was also a master carpenter and cabinet maker working on many custom homes and museum installations throughout the Southwestern states.
