Tamara “Tammy” Denise (Tungland) Cook, 61, of Spirit Lake passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake.
Tammy was born on March 20, 1958, to Burton and Delores (Shepard) Tungland in Spirit Lake. She graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1976. Then she attended beauty school in LeMars, IA. Tam worked as a hairstylist at Isle Beauty in Spirit Lake. She was united in marriage to Terry Cook on August 21, 1977, and they made their home in Estherville, IA. In the summer of 1981, Tam and Terry packed up all their belongings and headed north to Alaska. What an amazing adventure! Their love of Alaska kept them there for over 20 years, where she enjoyed fishing for Salmon and Halibut and hunting Elk and Deer. Tam returned home to Iowa in 2001, where she worked as a cleaning lady after retiring from the hair business. She enjoyed riding horses with her dad and fishing with friends. She was a great cook, spoiled, and loved her two nephews and will be missed. Tammy will be remembered for her sense of humor, all her funny stories, and her ability to make friends with everyone she met. Even on her cancer journey, she never complained, making the best of a bad situation. She was one very special person who lived her life to the fullest. Her kind, a heartfelt smile will never be forgotten. Left to cherish her memory are her dad, Burton Tungland of Spirit Lake; brother Terry (Mary) Tungland of Spirit Lake; nephew Jesse (Cheri) Tungland of Spirit Lake and their children Tyler and Taylor; nephew Cody (Sarah) Tungland of Milford and their son Cole; her favorite, loving uncle Denny and Aunt Rae Jean Tungland of Spirit Lake and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother Delores, husband Terry Cook and maternal and paternal grandparents.
