Sylvia “Kookie” Ann Thomas, 70 of Clarksburg passed away peacefully at Bridgeport Health Care on Thursday, June 16, 2022. She was born March 30, 1952 in Clarksburg, WV, daughter of the late Charles and Rosa Abraham Thomas.

Sylvia received the name “Kookie” by her brother, Jerry, when she was a baby. She was a graduate of Victory High School, Class of 1970 where she was the school Salutatorian and voted “Most Likely to Succeed” by her class. She attended WVU and earned a 4.00 GPA and then graduated with honors when she received her Bachelor’s in Education at Fairmont State University. Kookie was able to teach high school for five years before becoming ill.

Even though Kookie was a genius, she was mentally ill. Today the world does not understand the sickness of the brain, and the torture and prison that it has on a person. Kookie was the kindest, most giving person and was greatly loved by all who knew her. If you know someone struggling with mental illness, try and understand the behavior. Love them and help them.

Kookie loved Jesus and her loving mother. She is now free and has a Heavenly Mansion with her mom! Her brother and many relatives are all together again feasting at the Banquet Table of our Lord.

Kookie is survived by one sister, Sharon M. Thomas King and her husband Gene of Bridgeport; one brother, Charles J. “Jerry” Thomas and wife Sally of Clarksburg; sister in law, Susan Fittro Thomas of Clarksburg; several nieces and nephews; a special great niece, Miss Coraline.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Franklin “Tommy” Thomas.

The family would like to send out a special “Thank you” to Bridgeport Health Care and their staff.
