Sylvia Joan Bateman, 82, of Virginia, died Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
She was born Oct. 22, 1932, in Virginia, the daughter of Ronald and June McDonald Steele. She married Dale L. Bateman on June 5, 1950, in Springfield, and he survives.
She is also survived by two sons and seven daughters, Gary (Mary) Bateman of Springfield, Linda (John) DeGroot of Ocala, FL, Susan (Craig) Burns of Millington, TN, Joyce Bateman of Mason City, Julie Bateman of Tallula, Mark Bateman of Mason City, Deborah (Paul) Durako of Downs, Sharon (Thomas) Fusco of Ocala, FL, and Laura Crowder of Springfield; six grandchildren, Shane Bateman, Taylor (Christine) Bateman, Eric (Penny) DeGroot, David (Lori) DeGroot, Kelsey Durako and Emily Durako; 4 great grandchildren, and five sisters, Paula, Pat, Freda, Pearl and Debbie. She was preceded in death by one son, Steven.
Mrs. Bateman had a passion for reading. She spent her life caring for her family.
