Sylvia Frances Hawley Sjogren (Bright Eyes-Tsih Kohts) 82
Sylvia passed away on September 3, 2019 in Kellogg Idaho due to natural causes. Sylvia was born June 30, 1937 to David and Virginia (Chandler) Hawley at the Fort Belknap Hospital in Harlem, Montana. She was a member of the Aaniiih Tribe (aka:Montana Gros Ventre).
Sylvia grew up in Hays, Montana. She attended Saint Paul’s Mission School, graduating from high school in 1956. She then moved to Oakland, California to attend Cosmetology School.
While in Oakland she met and married August “Gus” Sjogren. Sylvia and Gus moved to Great Falls, Montana for a short while and eventually moved to Pinehurst Idaho. In Idaho they both worked for Bunker Hill. Sylvia eventually opened and operated her own beauty shop.
One of her most proudest accomplishments, was that she was one of the founders of a Grass Roots Organization to get the Kellogg Valley qualified as a superfund site.
Sylvia was a proud mother and grandmother.
Sylvia is survived by her son Keith Sjogren of Troup, Texas. Step-sons, Gus, Jr. and Gary Sjogren; daughter Karen Green of Pinehurst Idaho and step daughter Melanie Vinberg of Havre, Montana; six grandchildren, five great grandchildren; brothers Ronald, Francis “Cisco” (Francine) and Vincent “Poncho” (Loretta) Hawley all of Hays, Montana, Glenn Hawley of Billings, Montana; sisters Elouise (Larry) Geiser of Glasgow, Montana, Sharon Hawley, Arlee, Montana, Kathie Hawley of Colstrip, Montana, Kristal (Jim) Fox of Harlem, Montana and Nadine (Terrance ) Jackson of Charlo, Montana. She is also survived by a special niece Mena Limpy, the Chandler Family, the Hawley Family and special friends Gary and Wanda Drendel. Sylvia is preceded in death by her husband August Gus Sjogren, her parents David and Virginia Hawley, brothers David “Buzz” and Marshall Hawley and sisters Gloria Jean, Dianna and Kathleen Hawley.
