Our beloved mama, Susana Martinez Montano was called home into the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus, in the early morning on August 20, 2016. Mama was born in Del Norte, CO on June 7, 1942. She is survived by her sisters, Linda (Ron) Shannon, Shirley Sanchez, Peggy Salaz, and Catherine Salaz; all of who she loved very much. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jose Martinez; mother, Elena Salaz; father, Adonis Martinez; who she is celebrating with now.

Mama was a beautiful person, inside and out. Her sweet face was full of hope and joy, and she made others want to smile. Even on her bad days, she was still sweet.

Mama loved to play Rummy and she always won. She looked forward to playing with her caregivers and made sure they all could play. The laughter filled conversations were what she loved the most. When not playing Rummy, her time was spent coloring, crocheting, and watching old movies, especially, Westerns.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She leaves behind her children, Jeannette Archuleta, Anna Lee Wright, and Eduvijen (Lovette) Archuleta along with seventeen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, plus a few she adopted along the way.
Mama loved us all unconditionally. She was the most selfless woman I know. When asked “What specifically would you like prayer for?” Mama replied, “for my children to have peace after I am gone.”

My mama is a victory in Christ, and we are blessed to have her as our mama. She was my cheerleader for everything I did, right down to the Saturday before she left. Even as fragile as she was, she told me that I needed to do what I was called by God to do. God would take care of her.

Her selflessness was poured out to her grandsons who gave themselves to take care of her. Her five great grandchildren who lived with her, did things for her daily, always making her feel as if it was no big deal, allowing her to have her dignity. They loved her and were companions and friends as well. She left them knowing the joy of love and selflessness.

And To Anieya who gave up the summer to be a companion daily to her Nana. She cared for nana and kept her going. Thank you Love. Nana appreciated your time and friendship.

Our family would like to thank Specialty Nursing, Nurse Deseri who was mama’s nurse for the past five years. We also want to thank the staff at Davis Hospice, you ladies were wonderful and loving and mama looked forward to seeing your beautiful faces and sharing a smile.

Above all, we want to thank God who enabled me to be able to care for my mom. He surrounded me with sons and grandchildren who were understanding and loving. He gave me a work family who pray for us and are great friends I can lean on.

Father, Thank you for my church family and my longtime friends who prayed and visited my mom and celebrated all her victories. My mama was at peace knowing that we had our unique family. You laid the path that we followed so that Mama’s path led her to You. We, Thank you Lord for Love and Guidance, the Mercy, you’ve shown us, and the Grace you give us. Amen.
