Susan Matherly Wood, 58, died December 11, 2007 at her home. She was born in Lebanon, Kentucky, the daughter of George & Wanda Shewmaker Matherly. She was a member of Capital City Christian Church.
Susan was a terrific daughter, wife, mother, teacher, advisor, and friend. She always gave her best in every endeavor she undertook. A graduate of Western Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky, Susan taught at Hillandale Elementary, North Ridge Elementary, and Cary Christian Church Preschool, and was an Academic Advisor for the NCSU College of Engineering. Susan served God in numerous capacities at Capital City Christian Church, including Sunday School teacher. Susan fought many courageous battles with cancer in 1998/99 and again in 2007. Due to Susan’s determination, the skilled care of Dr. Kenneth Zeitler and many other doctors and associates, the prayers of many friends, and the healing and loving mercies of God; the world was blessed by Susan’s loving presence here for an additional 9 years. Her family and friends are thankful and treasure each day.
