Susan F. Spitzig, 78, of Bethlehem died Thursday, August 21, in her home surrounded by her loving family and dear friends. Susan was born September 4, 1935, in Jeannette, Pa., and graduated from Morristown High School in Morristown, N.J. Susan was the beloved wife of Edmund W. “Ned” Spitzig and shared more than 53 years of marriage together. Susan graduated from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Ill., with a B.A. in Education. She began her teaching career in New Jersey. She spent 2 years teaching elementary school in Chile, South America. Susan returned to New Jersey and married Ned Spitzig in 1961. They started their lives and family together in Baltimore, Md. Susan and Ned lived in Arlington Heights, Ill., for several years before moving to Bethlehem in 1970. Susan taught at Moravian Academy for 19 years. She volunteered her time and enjoyed activities including serving as a Brownies and Girl Scout leader and as a member of AAUW and the Historic Bethlehem House Tour committee. She also supported Central Moravian Church as a Sunday school teacher, hospitality committee member, tape ministry leader, Twenty-Minute Society member and church sacristan. Susan and Ned enjoyed traveling and playing bridge with friends as well as attending Lehigh University sporting events, but most importantly she enjoyed spending time with her family. Susans 6 grandchildren were the light of her life and kept her very busy. Survivors: Susan will be missed and lovingly remembered by her husband, Ned Spitzig, their daughters, Kristen Mayfield of Anneville, Sandra Chanachote and husband, Krant, of Centreville, VA, Pamela Larimer and husband, Craig, of Bethlehem and RuthE Potter and husband, Ben, of Harleysville; her brother, Russell Frank and wife, Peggy, of Irvine, Calif.; her grandchildren, AnnE and Emma Potter, Hunter and Robert Mayfield, Ian and Evan Larimer; her nephews and niece, Douglas Frank, Paul Frank and Carolyn Boudreau. Susan was the daughter of the late W.W. and Virginia Frank.
