Susan Kay Bybee

May 27, 1956 – February 5, 2022

On February 5, 2022, Susie Bybee passed away at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. She was 65 years old.

Susie was born May 27, 1956, in Exeter, California to loving parents Eugene and Ann Ferrara, who predeceased her passing. Susie was part of a multi-generation California citrus farming family and lived in Exeter nearly all her life. She excelled in Exeter public schools and was recognized as the valedictorian of the Wilson Middle School Class of 1970 and the salutatorian of the Exeter Union High School Class of 1974. She also served as the high school’s beloved mascot, the Monarch Lion. After starting her own family, Susie very proudly returned to college and completed a bachelor’s degree with honors from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Susie very much loved the Exeter community and was a dedicated, loving mom. She attended all her children’s extracurricular activities and was an active volunteer for the Parent Teacher Association at Sequoia Union Elementary School and the Exeter Union High School Sports Boosters. Susie was her children’s biggest fan, and they could always hear her positive encouragement from the stands. For several years in the late 1980s and 1990s, with her friend and business partner Dee LoBue, she owned and operated “Neat Stuff”, a gift store located on Pine Street in downtown Exeter. For the last 20 years, she was a successful salesperson working for Clinique Cosmetics in Gottschalks, Macy’s and Ulta in Visalia and many people have shared over the years how they loved shopping with Susie. In addition to her work in retail, she farmed citrus for seven years. Most recently, she joyfully cared for her grandson.

Susie took great pride in making her home a cozy, beautiful place to enjoy time with friends and family. She loved Christmas and would spend days every year decorating inside and outside her home including multiple thoughtfully adorned Christmas trees. Susie enjoyed gardening and baking and had a huge heart for animals especially her rescue dogs and cats. She had a cheerful, animated laugh and a warm, winning smile.

She is survived by her son, Adam Bybee, and his girlfriend Stephanie Patterson; daughter Amanda Timblin, and her husband Jason; and grandson Maverick. She is also survived by her brother, Joseph Ferrara, and his wife Mary; her aunt, Mildreene Kirby; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and longtime friends.

Susie was a caring and generous person throughout her life.
