Susan B. (Murphy) Coy, 80, of Noyes Neck Road, Weekapaug, RI, died suddenly on Wednesday May 9, 2007, at the Westerly Hospital.  She was the beloved wife of Arthur H. Coy.

 

Born in Westerly, RI, on May 7, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Ira E. and Helen J. (Phelan) Murphy.

 

Mrs. Coy was an elementary school teacher at the Ashaway Elementary School and the Chariho Middle School for many years before retiring.  She also served as the Deputy Town Clerk for the Town of Hopkinton, RI, for several years.

 

Mrs. Coy was a 1945 graduate of Westerly High School and a graduate of the University of Rhode Island Class of 1949, where she was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority.

 

Susan was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Westerly and a long time member of the church altar guild, and a member of the Friends of the Westerly Public Library.

 

She was an accomplished pianist and artist, particularly known for her oil painting.

 

Besides her husband she leaves her two children; John F. McCormick and his wife Roberta of Westerly; Elizabeth J. McCormick of Newington, CT; her brother Ira E. Murphy and his wife Fae of Jamestown, RI; four step-children, Carrie Coy Hebron, CT, Peter Coy of Demarest, NJ; Edward Coy of Lancaster, CA; and Sarah Craig of Shushan, NY.   She also leaves her aunt and uncle Elizabeth and Richard Molloy of Greenville, RI; and 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
