Susan Annabelle Barnard, 88, of Nutter Fort passed on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at United Hospital Center. She was born September 14, 1933 in Linn, WV, daughter of John Henry and Mabel Reda Ratcliff Lowther.

Susan was a graduate of Troy High School, Class of 1952. She worked at Heck’s Department Store for eighteen years as Office Manager until it closed.  She also worked as a CNA at Heartland Nursing Home for fifteen years. Susan was a lifelong member of Vincent Memorial United Methodist Church. Susan was a volunteer at United Hospital Center for over seventeen years, totaling over 9150 hours and was volunteer of the year for 2012-2013. She was Board Treasurer for United Hospital Center Auxiliary from 2013-2017. Her hobby was bowling where she was on a bowling league at Compton Lanes for many years.  

Susan is survived by her three children, Gary L Barnard and wife Diana, Buckhannon, William “Bill” D Barnard, Stonewood, Deborah A Kummer and husband Brian, Bridgeport; four grandchildren, Michael A Buffey, Robert J Buffey, Donald C Kummer, and Danielle N Barnard; five great grandchildren, Adriana B Ellis-Buffey, Cecilla R Buffey, Jaden S Kelley, Landon L Kelley, and Elias Barnard Fox; her cat Sabina; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by her husband, Roy C Barnard on January 19, 1999 whom she married on July 24, 1954 in Oakland, MD; one son, Charles E Barnard on June 21, 2011; one brother James H. “Jimbo” Lowther; one sister, Jean Nale; half-brother, William H Lowther; half-sister, Opal Kirkpatrick.
