Sue White, age 65, of Gilmore City, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at the Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. Sue Diane was born September 2, 1954, in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan to parents Roy and Marilyn (Mead) Grause. Sue loved books and was able to read by 3 years of age. She was a lifelong reader and writer and completed her GED in 1973 from Iowa Central Community College. While life took Sue across many miles and adventures, making homes in Texas, Arizona and Minnesota, she remained close with her family and eventually returned home to Iowa, where she was united in marriage to Curtis White on June 23, 2001. There was never a shortage of laughter or love when Sue was around. She was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend and loved one who bravely stood up for who and what she believed in. Through the years, Sue’s careers ranged from Headstart aide and daycare center director to ceramic shop and café owner, social worker and intern for Senator Tom Harkin in Washington, D.C.; yet, her greatest achievement was the completion of her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Buena Vista University in 1997. Sue was confident that she was everyone’s favorite aunt and was the first to introduce each niece and nephew to all the movie classics during sleepovers, make them adorable Halloween costumes, and was sure to give them a squeeze and a smooch each time she saw them. Sue was not afraid of public embarrassment like her guest performance as Sister Mary Sue and yelling condor through a hotel lobby. Sue loved teaching young children how to tell a good joke, how to grow shrimp, how to sew, and what is really in bologna salad sandwiches. Sue was a colorful and creative soul who enjoyed painting ceramics and décor, giving decorating advice, cooking, making jewelry and cards, sewing quilts and keepsakes. Not only will her family and life-long friends cherish the many handmade gifts she has given, but the true treasure she was to all who knew her. Sue is survived by her mother Marilyn Holcomb; siblings Daniel (Joanne) Grause, Jane Astor, John Grause, Julie (Gary) Hendricks, Jill (Randy) Jergens; step-children, nieces, and nephews that she loved and cared for like her own. Sue is preceded in death by her father; husband; step-daughter Jodi White; sister-in-law Cindy Grause; brother-in-law Jeff Astor and friend Rick Hulse.
