Dr. Subhash Vasant Vatave, M.D., age 76, died surrounded by family at his home in Newnan, Georgia on April 27, 2014 after a valiant struggle with a rare medical condition. Dr. Vatave was born on August 24, 1937, in Sangli in the state of Maharashtra, India.

Dr. Vatave and his wife, Janet, immigrated to the United States in 1970 and lived in the Southern California area from 1972 to 2007. They moved to Newnan, Georgia in 2007 where he lived in the Arbor Springs community. He is a graduate of B.J. Medical College in Pune, Maharashtra. He completed his residency at the University of California, Los Angeles where he was Chief Resident in Pediatrics and provided over 20 years of service to the UCLA Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Vatave practiced for over 40 years as a board-certified pediatrician. He was elected Chief of Staff at La Mirada Community Hospital. He is a past president of the Indian Medical Association, life member of the Indian Medical Association of Southern California and member of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin. Dr. Vatave loved his Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Dodgers. He was an avid traveler and enjoyed tennis. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, patients, community, and an indomitable optimism that allowed a boy from a town in India to pursue and achieve the American dream. He is survived by his wife Janet, sons Sunil and Ajay, daughter Gita and 8 grandchildren, all of whom along with their close extended family in the United States and India will deeply miss his presence and spirit.
