Steven W. Foster, 61, of Jacksonville, IL died Monday, July 11, 2011 in Jacksonville.
He was born July 12, 1949 in Jacksonville; the son of James R. and Mary F. Daniel Foster. He married Deean Smith on June 14, 1974 in Jacksonville and she survives.
He is also survived by a son, Andrew Foster of Chicago; a daughter, Sara Foster of Jacksonville; his mother, Mary Foster of Guntersville, AL; and a brother James R. Foster Jr. (wife, Susan) of Grant, AL. He was preceded in death by his father.
Mr. Foster was a 1967 graduate of Jacksonville High School and attended Eureka College. He served with the US Army as an air traffic controller in Viet Nam from 1968 to 1971. He returned to Jacksonville to work with his father as a licensed plumber with Foster Plumbing and Heating for 10 years. He was employed in the Passavant Hospital engineering department for 16 years including three years as director of engineering. More recently, Steve was a truck driver for Fox Midwest, Young Trucking, and Farmers Trucking. He was also formerly engaged in transporting recreational vehicles.
A racing enthusiast, he maintained and drove many cars including late models, midgets, modifieds, and micros. He also formerly owned and managed a USAC Silver Crown race car team.
