Steven was born on June 14, 1951 in Great Falls, Montana to Carsten A. Royland and Leona M. (Larson) Royland. He attended school in Great Falls. After honorably serving his country in the Navy during the Vietnam War, Steven returned to civilian life working at the BP Refinery in Wyoming. Upon returning to Great Falls he worked as a Bar Tender at the Spot Bar and at Napa Auto Parts for several years until he was forced to relinquish his position due to illness.

Steven married the love of his life, Rosalie Simonich on July 4, 2014 at the Benefis Hospital Chapel. Steven loved the outdoors and everything that entailed, including camping, fishing and hunting. His love for animals was similarly strong, especially for his three dogs and three cats.

Steven was the first one to help anybody out that needed it. He was a very personable guy who always seemed to be surrounded by friends, all of which he cared for deeply just as they cared for him. He will be missed tremendously by his family and all who knew him.

Survivors are his wife, Rosalie; sisters, Karen and Bonnie Royland, both of Great Falls and Bette Parkin of Utah; daughter, Lori Fura of Colorado; stepdaughter, Lacey Simonich of Missoula; stepsons, Jacob Simonich of Missoula and Jeff Mael and Dustin Dabler, both of Great Falls; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Those who have preceded Steven in death are his father, Carsten (Jeri) Royland; mother, Leona (Victor) McKenzie; brother, Michael Royland; loving aunt, Renee Larson Prareateau; and grandparents, Lester and Amanda Larson.
