Born in 1935, Steve enjoyed a childhood in Robbinsdale, Minnesota surrounded by his relatives of Norwegian, German and Dutch descent.  There he first learned love of family, the importance of hard work, an appreciation for cold winter sports and spent countless hours on the baseball fields of the region.  He held over 40 jobs from his first at the age of 8 delivering groceries to serving as a police officer on Capitol Hill while attending Law School, making sausage in a small factory, working as a mail carrier and claims adjuster to the eventual establishment of his law practice in downtown Denver.  He was passionate about the law and ran his own practice for 49 years, often serving his clients for whatever they could afford.

He married the love of his life, Ann Eckerle in 1963 in Alexandria, Virginia whom he first met while they were at Georgetown University.  He and Ann raised their children in Littleton, Thomas “Tom” Peter Johnson of Seattle, WA, Margaret Johnson Keohane (Neil Keohane) of Centennial, CO, Kirsten Johnson (David Rothrock) of Seattle, WA, Sarah Johnson (David Carey) of Baltimore, MD, Becky Johnson O’Connor (Tom O’Connor) of Denver. He is survived by Ann, his 5 children and 11 grandchildren, Ryan, Emma and Tim Keohane, Kate and Ava Johnson Carey, Keegan and Finn O’Connor, and Tor, Lu, Stephen and Ellie Rothrock as well as his brother, Lance Johnson of Minnesota and nieces and nephew.  He showered his 11 grandchildren with his storytelling, humor, wit, love and never-ending encouragement and skied with all of them.  He was preceded in death by Ann and Steve’s son, Steven Michael, and his parents, Claire and Arnold Johnson.
