Steven “Steve” Earl Carney, 68, of Indianapolis, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, in Indianapolis.

He was born on July 18, 1949, to Raymond Earl and Margaret (Cheatham) Carney, in St. Louis, Missouri. On January 24, 2014, he married Marsha Lowes, in Indianapolis.

He was an automotive tool & die maker for General Motors, for over 43 years.

Steve enjoyed helping his step-son, at his home, Pacer and IU basketball, Colts football, and working in the yard. He liked fishing, and making all of his children quilts, reading the newspaper, and doing Sudoko puzzles. He loved playing with their dog, Biscuit, and spending time with all of his family; especially his grandchildren.

Steve was always there to help with various projects or whatever else his family and friends needed. He was a very loving father, brother, and husband; one of his strengths was that he always tried to see the best in people.

Steve is survived by his wife, Marsha Lowes; two sons, Nathan Carney, Sean Carney; one daughter, Heather (Zane) Shelley; one brother, Bobby (Debra) Carney of Greenwood; eight grandchildren, Brittany, Alana, Dash, Ava, Drew, Madison, Deven, and Dakota; one great-grandchild, Calina; a niece, Dawn (Mark) Lowry; a nephew, Bobby (Nicci) Carney Jr.; and a great-niece, Bailey Riddle.

Steve was also a father figure for Marsha’s family and enjoyed spending time with them; they include, Steve Magner and Renae Brown Kosecki. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
