Steven Loyd Dolan (65) of Midland, Michigan passed away peacefully on the afternoon of December 28, 2014. Steve was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, mentor, and friend.

Steve was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on December 25, 1949, the third child of Don and Josephine Dolan. The family moved to Detroit in 1954. He attended Mother of Our Savior elementary school and University of Detroit High School. In Detroit, Steve met his future wife, Kathleen Loretta O’Donnell, in 1965. Steve and Kathy were married on June 19, 1971.

Steve graduated from Purdue University in 1971 with a bachelor of science in chemical engineering, and completed his masters of science in chemical engineering in 1973 at Purdue. He also served in the Michigan National Guard. In 1988, Steve completed the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School.

In 1973, he and Kathy moved to Midland, where he joined Dow Corning Corporation as a Process Engineer. Steve worked for 27 years at Dow Corning in a progression of leadership and executive roles, including Site Manager of Dow Corning’s Barry, Wales site, USA Vice President and General Manager of the Advanced Materials Group, and Global Director of Transportation, Energy, and Fabrication Industries. Through Dow Corning, Steve and his family enjoyed 3 years in Wales, and Steve built and enjoyed many rewarding professional relationships.

Steve developed passions for sailing, biking, golf, woodworking, investing, and community-building. He was a tireless and generous volunteer for the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan, the Alliance for Paired Donation, Creative 360 Artshop, and The Arc of Midland. Steve also enjoyed being at the family cottage at any time of the year.

A man of integrity and honesty, with a keen mind, he was always ready to help think through and solve a problem. As his family often would say, he was the smartest man in the room. Having endless discussions with family or friends on a variety of topics was a great pleasure for him and for them.

Spending time with his family was the biggest joy of Steve’s life. He was so extremely proud of his wife, his children, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren. Each of them has received unconditional love, wisdom and strength from him.

He will be greatly missed and leaves a large hole in the lives of his wife, Kathy, sons Kevin (Meg), Patrick (Whitney), daughter Colleen, and granddaughters Kate and Rose. He is also survived by his brother Don (MaryAnne) Dolan, and sisters Diane (John) Zabell and Nancy (Joseph) Skrzycki.
