Steven Alan Aldridge, 70, of Colonial Heights passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024, leaving behind a legacy that resonates through the keys of countless pianos, the echoes of numerous choirs, and the hearts of all who were touched by his music. Born May 1, 1953, he was the son of the late William Armstead Aldridge and Lucille Aldridge Parker and was also preceded in death by his brother, Richard Michael Aldridge; maternal grandparents, Henry L. and Fannie Belle Williams; and paternal grandparents, Monroe M. and Siberia Ida Aldridge.

Born with a natural gift for music, Steven’s journey as a virtuoso pianist, music director, and teacher was marked by unwavering passion and dedication. His mastery of the piano, organ, and voice was not only a testament to his talent but also a reflection of his lifelong commitment to his craft.

Throughout his illustrious career, Steven served as the music and choir director for several churches in Virginia and North Carolina, guiding congregations through hymns and harmonies with grace and skill. His devotion to his students, both as a private instructor and as an educator, was unparalleled, shaping countless musicians and nurturing their love for music.

Steven’s academic achievements were as impressive as his musical prowess. He earned his Bachelor’s in Music from James Madison University, where he laid the foundation for his future endeavors, and later pursued a Master’s in Music Pedagogy from VCU, honing his teaching skills to perfection.

Beyond the realm of music, Steven was an aficionado of cinema, finding inspiration and joy in the works of iconic actresses such as Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Doris Day, Judy Garland, Carol Burnett, Bette Midler, Lucille Ball and Julie Andrews. His love for movies was matched only by his adoration for musicals, often initiating conversations with lines from his favorite films or lyrics from beloved songs.

He is survived by his sisters, Brenda Simmons and Stacy Parker; sister-in-law, Jeanette Aldridge; nephews, Thomas Wayne Aldridge, Christopher Glenn Aldridge, David Armstead Simmons; niece, Cherie Simmons McTiernan; several great-nieces and nephews; and a special cousin, Sandra Wiedenman, who was like a sister.

In the words of one of his favorite musicals, “The hills are alive with the sound of music,” and though Steven may no longer walk among us, his music will continue to resonate in our hearts forever. He was his sisters’ touchstone and will be sorely missed.
