Steven A. VanSciver, Jr. of Edgewater Park passed away Saturday, February 29th at the young age of 40. Steven graduated from Burlington City High School in 1997, where he was a pitcher for the varsity baseball team. Aside from baseball, Steven enjoyed fishing and playing basketball in his spare time.

He will be remembered by all who knew him as a man who loved his family more than anything in the world, his big heart, and his sense of humor. One of Steven’s greatest joys was cooking for his family with his specialty gnudis, gnocchi, ravioli, and many other dishes. He also loved watching Phillies games with his grandfather, even though his favorite player was Mark McGwire of the Oakland A’s.

Steven was predeceased by his grandfather, Eugene Saragnese, whom he lovingly referred to as “Sago”. He is survived by his mother and step-father Michele and Mark Merlino, his sister Lindsey Merlino, grandmother Livia Saragnese, his uncle and aunt Gene and Anne Saragnese, his aunt and uncle Linda and Larry Anderson, his cousins Daniel (Leyla), Rami, Kristen, Alyssa and Brittany.

He is also survived by his step-grandfather John P. Merlino, Jr. and step-uncle and aunt John and Linda Merlino.
