Stephen T. Michael, Jr., 73, of Fountain Hill passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 26, 2007, surrounded by his family who will sadly miss him. He was the husband of Gloria (Zamiskie) Michael for 30 years in May. His first wife and the mother of his four children, Carmela (D’Agostino) Michael passed away in 1975. He was born in Bethlehem, the son of the late Stephen F. and Wanda (Niemiec) Michael. He graduated from Liberty High School in 1952. He served in the US Army, stationed in Germany, from 1955-57. He was employed by the Bethlehem Steel Corp. for 28 years until retiring in 1985. He coached the Lipkins baseball team to back to back league championships in 1954-55. He umpired baseball in the local area for over 40 years including high school, college, American Legion, Tri-County, Blue Mountain and the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball Leagues. He was one of the few umpires to be inducted into the Blue Mountain League, Tri-County League and Northampton County Legion Baseball Halls of Fame. He was a longtime member of St. Bernard’s Club and a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church. He continued to enjoy going to baseball games, playing cards and going to Atlantic City. Survivors: Wife, Gloria; daughter Donna Maria in Bethlehem; sons Anthony and his wife Theresa in California, Michael in Maryland and Matthew in New York; grandchildren Nicholas, Taryn, Taylor, Zachary & Lauren; great-grandson Dylan; in-laws; nieces and nephews.
