Steve Runia, age 58, of Humboldt, died on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Stephen Phillip Runia was born October 10, 1954 to Vernon Sr. and Connie (Freeman) Runia in Cook County, Illinois. Stephen graduated Carl Sandburg High School in 1972. He was united in marriage to Kathleen Dale Behrends on September 30, 1978 at the New Sharon Methodist Church. The couple then moved to Monroe City, Missouri where they adopted their four wonderful children. The family lived there for 18 years before returning to Humboldt in 1999. Steve worked at Pro Coop Elevator in Rutland. He was a member of the Abundant Life Church. Steve was a devoted family man who had a strong faith. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Kathy, children Clarence Ray (Halle) Runia of Yokota Air Base in Japan, Amanda Beth Runia of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Amaris Rebba Runia of Humboldt and Philip Dale Runia of Humboldt; his mother, Connie Runia, of Long View, Texas; brothers “Butch” Vernon Runia Jr. of Chicago, Illinois, Tim Runia of Long View, Texas, Roy Runia of Long View, Texas, Jim Runia of California and Tom Runia of Park Forest, Illinois; and numerous other family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Vernon Runia Sr.
