Stephen R. Dowdall, 60, of 280 E. Losey St., Galesburg, formerly of 2500 N. Seminary St., died at 4:55 p.m .on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at Heartland Health Care. Stephen was born on January 10, 1948, in Crawford, England, the son of Sidney G. and Joan L. Chandler Dowdall.
Surviving are 3 brothers, David Dowdall of Monmouth, Patrick (Ellen) Dowdall of Table Grove, and Jamie (Janet) Dowdall of Mt. Carroll. Also surviving are 4 nephews, 3 nieces, and 8 grand nephews and nieces. Stephen graduated from Western Illinois University with a degree in Horticulture.
He was the manager of the WIU greenhouse for many years. He then moved to Riverside, CA, where he managed a nursery for 7 years, before moving back to Galesburg in 1992. He served in the US Navy from February 17, 1969, to December 1, 1972, as a signalman on the USS MacKenzie.
