Stephen Leonard “Steve” Hunker, 80, of Columbia, formerly of Moberly, died Monday, June 20, 2016 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.
Steve was born April 2, 1936 in Roanoke to Leslie M. and Martha (Morris) Hunker.
He graduated from Moberly Junior College and then served in the US Navy as Crew Chief and Flight Line Chief during the Vietnam War; receiving an honorable discharge. He then worked for General Electric in Kansas City for a few years, then opened, owned, and operated Hunker Appliance Service in Moberly from 1970 to 1988. He retired in 2003 from the US Postal Service in Columbia as an Electrical Building Maintenance Mechanic.
Steve was an active member of Coates Street Presbyterian Church, the American Cancer Society, and several veteran’s organizations
Steve married Wanda Hopper on April 1, 1961 in Moberly and she survives of the home. Also surviving are a son Scott Hunker and his wife Stacy Barr; grandchildren, Tristan Meyer and Addison Hunker; son-in-law Timothy Carter all of Columbia; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Stephaney Carter, infant Michelle Hunker; and three brothers, William “Bill”, Marion, and Martin “Marty” Hunker.
He and Wanda loved to square dance. Steve loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He enjoyed flying, dancing, traveling, playing cards, reading, fishing, boating, windsurfing, and crossword puzzles.
