PHELPS, Mr. Stephen J., Kalamazoo, MI. Died Sunday morning February 6, 2011. Stephen was born May 17, 1963 in Bayard, Iowa a son of Frank and Carol Behrends Phelps. He had been a Kalamazoo area resident for 15 years and was employed with JBS Packerland in Plainwell.
He enjoyed the opportunity to volunteer at the Community Center with seniors and the Learning Center with swimming lessons with the children. Stephen was preceded in death by his grandparents; and a sister, Virginia VanHamme.
On September 23, 1995, he was united in marriage to Margy A. Reed Phelps who survives. Also surviving, 5 children, George, Maisy, Pansy, Sweet Pea, and Chazzy; 5 siblings, Ralph Doris Phelps of Bayard, IA, Mike Barbara Phelps of Essex, IA, Jim Jan Phelps of Mason City, IA, and Miles Greta Stearman of Seaside, CA, and Eric Cristina Stearman of Atlanta, GA; his mother, Patricia Donavon of Winter Park, FL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
